Newborn baby care basics

Welcome to the world of parenting😊. Especially to the new moms, I want to tell you that you have got all the strength you need to take care of your new born. Yes you amazing moms can do it, just a little bit of patience and a lot of learning is all you need. Start with these basic steps to take care of your new born baby.

Feeding:

Take someone's help to learn how to breastfeed your baby. There will be lactation experts available in hospitals to help you with your breastfeeding journey.

Breastfeeding may not be possible for every women. If you have any issues with breastfeeding you can opt for formula feeding. Some mothers think that they cannot form a loving bond with their baby without breastfeeding. But the truth is loving mothers will always create a special bond with their babies. Whichever you opt breastfeeding or formula feeding, feeding is a great way of strengthening the bond.

Feeding newborn

For the first few days you may be afraid if your baby is not waking up to take feeds for every two hours, but do not worry as newborns tend to sleep a lot in the first few weeks. You need to feed them even if they are asleep. Try to wake them up and give them feeding for every two hours.

Babies tummy is so small that the milk you feed now will be digested within 2 hours or in a lesser time than that. So make sure your baby is not hungry. And also you need to burp your baby after every feed to ensure that your baby does not get stomachache due to gas.

Sleep:

New born babies need a lot of sleep unlike adults. They grow as they sleep. So do not worry if your baby is sleeping a lot. Make sure you set a schedule for the baby to sleep as they sleep in the morning times and be awake at night. It could make you tired as you cannot sleep at night. It is important that you create a sleep routine for your baby.

Baby sleeping

Follow the routine for a few days and then the baby will get habituated. You can make a routine of bathing your baby with warm water and then arranging their bedding in a dark room. Make your babies room dark at night times by switching off the lights and bright at daytime so that the baby will know the difference between day and night.

Play time:

Talk to your baby while feeding, bathing, diaper changing. Smile, stick out your tongue and make funny faces so that the baby will imitate and learn. Give your attention. Hang some toys to their crib so they will be entertained. Hold them and let them feel comfortable.

Bathing:

For the first few days babies have their umbilical cord tied and it takes some days to heal and fall off naturally. So at that time it will be better if you can give them sponge bath with hot water.

Baby bathing

Once the umbilical cord is healed you can give your baby actual bath. You can either choose the traditional way by placing your baby on your legs and bathing them or you can choose a plastic baby bath. Check the water temperature before bathing the baby. After bathing the baby clean with a towel and wipe them dry. Do not use talcum powder on their face as it may lead to breathing problems in infants.

All the best and happy parenting. Post comments about your journey with your newborn baby.
